Daewonsa Sancheong South Gyeongsang Province South Korea
Daewonsa (temple) was established in 548 by Monk Yeongi durring the Silla Era. Originally called Pyeongwonsa, it was burned down during the Japanese invasions (1592-1597), was reconstructed in 1685 and renamed Daewonam (hermitage). It was again rebuilt in 1890 and renamed Daewonsa (temple). In 1948, during the Suncheon and Yeosun Rebellion, the temple was again burned down. In 1955 the temple was reconstructed completing the temple seen here today. Daewonsa is branch temple of Haeinsa. Daewonsa is Gyeongsangnam-do Cultural Treasure #114.
