Ganghwa Peace Observatory, with 1 story below ground and 4 stories above ground, opened in 2008. It is located on the crest of a hill at the narrowest point in the river 1.7 miles from North Korea. From the decks using the high power binoculars, a glimpse into a North Korean farming village can be seen. Multiple exhibits document the history of the the conflict and the and recent strife. The basement and the 4th floor space are exclusively used for military purposes. The 3rd floor has an observatory facility.
