Dokdo North Gyeongsang Province South Korea
Dokdo (island) consists of two main volcanic islands, and 89 smaller islets, with a total surface area of 46.32 acres. The highest point of 554 ft is on the west island. Located off the East coast of South Korea in the East Sea, Dokdo is administratively part of Ulleung County, North Gyeongsang province and is situated at a distance of 135 miles from the mainland and 54 miles from Ulleungdo (island). Dokdo, a protected area, is home to many unique plants, animal and sea creatures.

Access to the island is extremely difficult due to the rough seas surrounding the island and lack of seawalls protecting the dock. Some estimates say that as few as 30% of ferry trips result in a successful docking.
