A hyanggyo is a local school from the Joseon Era (1392-1897), established by the government for the study of Confucianism.
The Goheung Hyanggyo was established in 1441. Destroyed during the second Japaese invasion in 1597, it was rebuilt and relocated to the present site in 1695.
This Hyanggyo consists of two areas: the outer area being, Oesammun (outer gate), Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), Dongjae and Seojae (east and west dormitories). The area inner area, the ritual area, includes Sinsammun (inner gate), Daeseongjeon (Confucian shrine hall), Dongmu and Seomu (east and west shrines).
