Simyangsa was established by Wonhyo (617-686) in the Unified Silla era. Originally called Mireukin, was renamed to Simwangsa. Simyangsa is a sub-temple of Beakyangsa. <br><br>The temple is Jeonnam Tangible Cultural Property #88.<br><br><br>Three-story Stone Pagoda Outside the North Gate, Naju, is a three-level, 3m/10ft tall stone pagoda, at Simyangsa thought to have been built in the early Goryeo period.<br><br>Initially erected outside Naju-eup Fortress North Gate, was moved to Geumseonggwan in 1915. When Geumseonggwan was remodeled in 2006, it was relocated here to Simhyangsa.<br><br>The pagoda was originally made of granite with black gneiss (a laminated metamorphic rock similar to granite) gapseok (flat stone laid upon another stone), a part of which was broken and replaced with granite in 2006. Although overall it is small, it has such a graceful shape that people in Naju call it the 'Dwarf Pagoda,' <br><br><br><br><br>
